About Us

The Houston chapter of the Florida A&M University National Alumni Association is a mix of both seasoned alumni and new graduates dedicated to serving our beloved alma mater while strengthening the bond of our Rattler family.

What we do:

  • Recruitment / Scholarships – In order to ensure the Rattler legacy perseveres, it is important that we actively recruit high school students and encourage them to consider attending FAMU. To do this, our chapter participates in local college fairs and looks for additional opportunities to meet with students. Not only is our focus on getting students to attend FAMU, but we also are in the process of setting up a scholarship fund so that we can provide financial assistance to deserving students who are looking to join the Rattler family.
  • Networking – part of what the alumni association sets to accomplish is building and reestablishing both business and personal relationships among alumni. Through social events and other activities we are able to get to know one another and leverage these relationships in the future.
  • Community Service – We participate in community events to serve those in our immediate geographic reach. Community service events are also a good way to establish a credible presence in Houston and to create an identity of who Rattlers truly are. If you know of a community service event that we should participate in, please e-mail famuhouston@yahoo.com.
  • Fundraising – Through various fundraising campaigns and initiatives we are raising money for scholarships to give to students from the Greater Houston Area. Proceeds from fundraising also go toward contributions to the National Alumni Association and the FAMU Foundation, both of which are integral components of recruiting top-notch students to the university and establishing FAMU as a premier institution of higher learning.
